Birth Rates In U.S. Are Falling And Here's The Reason Why

American women wait to have their babies and they are having fewer ones. Hence, birth rates in U.S. are diminishing. The statistics were published by the government Tuesday.

There has been a sharp decline in fertility rates revealed in the data collected by the National Center for Health Statistics – the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s statistic arm(1). Most women are having an average of 1.3 babies and an increasing number of women who wanted to be mothers were beyond the age of 35.

Birth Rates Decine In U.S.

The study pointed out that the youth of America doesn’t wish to have more children. People are worried about the future instances of the economy, child care, and whether they could handle all the expenses that came along with it.

Birth Rates In U.S. Are Falling And Here's The Reason Why

Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health who researches demographic and fertility, Alison Gemmill told CBS news that there is a drastic change in when and how women give birth the recent times.

The trend isn’t compulsorily a bad one as subjectively opinionated by Alison. A report from 2015-2019 pointed out that 56.7% of women between the age of 15-49 have had a minimum of one child. When we look at the 2019 reports specifically, birth rates steadily increased for women of age between 35-39, data from CDC. The trend from the last three decades showed that birth rates improved for women in their 40s.

In a simple sense, majority of the American women are waiting for that moment in their life when they are really ready to have a child. The wait can be for many reasons.

Most commonly the reasons were to pursue higher education, the growing participation of women in the labor force, shifts in family ideologies and values, inconsistency in relationships, and financial constraints. Greater economic and social forces were also reasons for the decline in the birth rate in the U.S.

As we look at the reasons more closely, education is a valid reason to go for as one needs to be literate enough to have a job with a job came financial stability and freedom. It’s also better for the child’s growth when their mothers are educated giving them a better life to live. The modern dating world had made it difficult for youth to trust people and relationship instability is also a valid reason for the decline in birth rates.

In America, if one needs to raise a child in a better state, the financial burden that came along is immense. hence, one needs to be prepared to tackle that and find solutions ready.

The positive part of the research is that women want to be in a better position before major life decisions. A better and stable home atmosphere will be better for the growth of an individual and shows the responsibility behind it. All women in their 30s almost of all them had completed their college education before becoming a mother.

The question of the hour is whether women who wait will be able to deliver the babies they wish for.

A different trend that continued is that most of the first birth in American women were outside of marriage. The percentage declined when the mother received some form of higher education.

According to another report, teen pregnancies skyrocketed but in 2019 there were records of low teen pregnancies as well. This might be due to the increasing number of literate women.

In the case of men, the standard age of first-time fathers has been higher than the standard age of first-time mothers. Even the men of America are waiting just like the women, may even more than them to be fully prepared both mentally and financially to raise a kid in a better way.

The trend also arise negative concerns for the tax base and workers in the aging American society.
