The Chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, Ronna McDaniel, has finally declared that she will most likely leave the chair behind on March 8. The announcement comes shortly after former President Donald J. Trump notified about the need for a newly selected national party leader before the general election.
Trump Endorses McDaniel’s Chair To Michael Whatley
In a recently issued statement, McDaniel, who held the position for several years, remarked; “I have decided to step down on March 8.” Reportedly, the decision was made to allow the party’s nominee to “select a Chair of their Choice.”
Reminiscing some of the accomplishments she made during her period, the 50-year-old said that it included the building of the committee’s first grassroots donor program, winning the popular vote in 2022, firing Nancy Pelosi, and creating an Election Integrity Department. She also recalled the time when she expanded the party with minority outreach strengthened it through developing Republican organizations, and launched Bank Your Vote to assist the Republicans in casting their votes early.
Earlier this month, McDaniel, who served as chair of the Republican Party of Michigan, told Trump that she was planning to quit soon after the South Carolina primary, which took place on Feb. 24, Saturday. The niece of the US Senator Mitt Romney even called herself a “team player” who has always done the best for the party.
However, McDaniel has now initiated an election within the party to win Trump’s preferred chair and co-chair. Meanwhile, Trump has already endorsed the positions of two respective personalities- the national committee’s general counsel and North Carolina Republican party chairman, Michael Whatley to succeed McDaniel and his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, to be the co-chair.
Trump chose McDaniel after the 2016 election to serve as the Chair of RNC after Reince Priebus left the post to serve as his first chief of staff at the White House. After completing 3 terms on duty, she was re-elected to a fourth term earlier in 2023, defeating her opponent Hermeet Dhillon.
When asked about McDaniel’s achievements and her overall performance in the party in a conversation made earlier this month, Trump said that “some changes” were about to be implemented at the RNC (Republican National Committee).
Trump remarked that she had performed when she took care of Michigan and did okay in the RNC. He hinted that some changes may be made in the RNC before the general election.
McDaniel’s performance in the RNC was previously questioned when Republicans lost several Senate and governorship races during the 2022 midterm elections. Following that, many grassroots activists and influencers began to voice for Harmeet Kaur Dhillon’s campaign in support of the former vice chairwoman of the California republican party. Meantime, McDaniel presented a list of 100 RNC members before the GOP’s winter meetings to indicate her power in the RNC.

Her leadership also received major backlash within the party when she failed to handle the party’s finances and other operations of grassroots. Following Trump’s series of GOP victories in New Hemisphere and Lowa, she said that it was time for the party to come together as a whole in support of Trump, who is the eventual nominee representing the Republicans.
