10 Simple Yet Effective Ways To Make Hair Soft, Silky, And Long!

Achieving great hair requires proper care and the correct application of styling products. Let’s face it, you won’t achieve those Ariana Grande or Beyoncé-like locks just by applying coconut oil. We have to admit it – without the appropriate styling tools or products, it’s challenging to recreate those celebrity hairstyles you admire in photo shoots. And let’s not overlook the significance of eating the right foods, along with learning how to make hair silky permanently.

The methods you’ve heard about for achieving soft and healthy hair might seem like too much effort. We’re all weary of diets solely focused on green leafy veggies – they’re impractical, especially for food lovers like myself. That’s why, in addition to external hair care, I’ll also guide you through incorporating hair-enhancing foods into your daily diet to elevate your hair game. Plus, I’ll share some home remedies for soft hair overnight, making it easier than ever to achieve luscious locks.

Things You Might Have Been Doing Wrong…

Brushing Wet Hair

One of the most common yet overlooked mistakes we often make is brushing our hair when it’s wet. While it may appear sleek at the moment, in reality, you’re causing damage. The best approach to handling wet hair is to use a wide-toothed comb, starting from the tips and gently working your way up. This simple step is essential if you want to achieve soft, manageable hair.

Brushing your hair downward roughly with a hairbrush can damage the outer cuticle layer. This can leave your hair broken and frizzy. The gentler you are with your hair while it’s wet, the better it can leave your hair.

Are You Blow-drying The Right Way?

Okay, it’s true that the best way to dry your hair is by letting it air dry naturally – there’s no substitute for that. But for busy women like us, that’s often not feasible. None of us wants to go to work looking like a drowned chicken. However, don’t despair; we can still use a blow dryer and maintain our hair’s health. How? Simply blow dry your hair as usual, but before finishing, switch to the cold air mode on the dryer and give your hair a blast of cool air.

How To Make Your Hair Soft In 5 Minutes

One of the best ways to make your hair soft, this will not only close the cuticle but will also make your hair more tamable and easy to handle for styling. Another tip is never to use the dryer without the nozzle. The nozzle directs the air down to the tip from the roots thereby helping the hair to dry faster as well as causing less damage to the cuticle. You can use your fingers as a comp and move them through your hair while using cold air to make it more shiny and sleek.

Your Towel Can Be Your Worst Enemy

For many of us, it’s become a common habit to grab a towel and vigorously rub it back and forth over our hair. However, this not only removes water from the hair but also generates friction between the towel and the hair strands, leading to dryness, cuticle damage, breakage, knots, and frizz. Instead, learn how to make your hair soft in 5 minutes with gentle towel blotting and the right conditioning techniques.

The secret to smooth hair? Reduce friction. It’s a simple yet highly effective method. By keeping the hair cuticles tightly closed, you can significantly reduce the risk of frizz or breakage. This is another crucial tip you should know for achieving soft hair.

How To Make Hair Silky Permanently

When drying your hair, it’s preferable to use a smoother towel or even a T-shirt. If you opt for a towel, rather than vigorously rubbing your hair, gently wrap it in the towel and softly squeeze out the excess water. This technique helps to preserve the integrity of the hair strands. Additionally, learn how to get soft hair naturally at home with simple and effective methods like using natural oils or homemade hair masks.

Shampooing The Right Way

When shampooing, it’s common to gather hair at the top of our heads and vigorously scrub the shampoo into the scalp and hair tips. However, this practice not only causes tangling but also strips away moisture from the hair ends. For individuals with curly hair, this could lead to significant damage. Instead, learn how to make natural hair soft and long by adopting gentler shampooing techniques and incorporating moisturizing treatments into your hair care routine.

How To Make Natural Hair Soft And Long

So, the curly hair girlies out there on the mission to find ways to make your hair soft, keep this in mind! If you have straight hair, you don’t need to worry much as gravity can help you dispense the oil throughout the length of your hair easily. If you are a curly-haired beauty then the oil might not reach your hair tips just as easily.

What does this mean? Simple, curly-haired girls need not shampoo them as often. Another important thing that cannot be skipped is to use the conditioner right after shampooing. If you have a very oily scalp make sure you only apply the conditioner at the ends of your hair and not at the roots.

Note 1:

If you are someone who lives in the city or an area where there is hard water then this can damage your hair. It can make your hair dry, frizzy, and completely lifeless. Here is a little hack- you can add a bit of baking soda to your clarifying shampoo once a week. Baking soda can increase the surfactants helping in cleaning the scalp. If you don’t like this idea you can also purchase a filter shower head which can soften the water.

Note 2:

When you are out to purchase your shampoo, check the ingredients list. Look out for a label named hydrolyzed keratin. Keratin is one of the keys to getting silky smooth hair. It can also help in restoring the structure and color of damaged hair.

Get The Right Pillowcase.

This might sound a bit crazy when you’re talking about ways to make your hair soft. But a pillowcase can do a lot to the hair. For example, if your pillowcase is made of a rough cotton material, then this can absorb the natural oils on your head and dry out the hair.

These cases, if not changed frequently, can cause scalp infections and also breakouts on the face. Therefore a nice smooth silky pillowcase will help you keep your hair sleek and shiny.

Ways To Make Your Hair Soft, Silky, And Long!

As women, we adore experimenting with our hair—changing its style, and structure, and adding colors. Not only does this elevate our hair’s elegance, but it can also profoundly transform our personality and appearance. Surprisingly, the real styling of hair occurs in the shower. Yes, that’s right—what you do in the shower can bring about a tremendous change in your appearance.

It’s a fact that it’s impossible to create a good hairstyle without proper shampooing or conditioning. As I have mentioned below one of the best ways to make your hair look its best self after every time you shampoo is to use a shampoo with keratin. A good shampoo cannot alone keep your hair well-tamed in the long run, here are the best and simplest ways to make your hair soft, silky, and long!

#1- Egg Pack

Consider applying an egg mask to your hair—whether alone or combined with oils or aloe vera. Eggs are packed with protein and nutrients that can boost hair shine and strength. This mask is suitable for different hair types, such as dry and damaged, oily, and treated hair, and it can yield instant results.

To make a simple plain egg mask you will need, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon of honey, and any oil of your choice (most preferably olive, coconut, or almond oil).

To make this pack:

  • Take a whole egg and beat it along with the oil and honey.
  • Apply this along the scalp as well as the whole length of your hair.
  • Leave it on till it’s completely dry
  • Rinse off with lukewarm water and a gentle hair cleanser.

Ways To Make Your Hair Soft, Silky, And Long: #2- Vinegar wash

Apple cider vinegar has been in use as a universal product for a while now. Not only does it help in keeping the body’s metabolism up and managing acne, but it can also help in bringing back the life of dead hair. Our hair naturally has a pH of 5.5, this can be disrupted by frequent use of strong shampoos and other chemicals.

Using a vinegar solution as a hair rinse can help smooth, soften, and add shine to your hair by closing the cuticles. To create this mixture, combine 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1 cup of water.

After washing your hair with shampoo and conditioner as usual, give your hair a final rinse with the vinegar solution.

3. Banana Pack

Bananas are great for the skin as well as the hair. They are loaded with carbohydrates, vitamins, potassium, and natural oils. They are also rich in antioxidants that help fight free radicals. Making a banana hair pack will make your hair feel nourished and moisturized instantly.

It can help in taming down the frizz, soothe an irritated scalp as well as add shine to the hair if used on a regular basis. Here is a great banana hair pack recipe.

Grab a ripe banana and combine it with 2 teaspoons of yogurt. Mash and blend them into a paste. Apply this mixture thoroughly onto your hair, beginning from the tips and working your way up to the roots. Allow it to sit for approximately an hour. Rinse it off using a gentle cleansing shampoo.

Ways To Make Your Hair Soft, Silky, And Long: #4-Hot Oil Therapy

Doing a hot massage once every week can not only make your hair smooth, shiny, and strong but it can also be a great therapy for you to relax. To do a hot oil massage you can use oils like coconut oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, castor oil, lavender oil, rosemary oil, or tea tree oil.

You have the option to use a single oil or create a blend of oils. Personally, I enjoy mixing coconut oil with lavender or tea tree oil for added benefits. This blend also doubles as a form of aromatherapy, instantly calming your body. Here’s how to do a hot oil massage:

Take 2-3 tablespoons of your chosen oil(s), adjusting the amount based on your hair length. You can apply the oil as is or gently heat it. Be cautious not to burn yourself (avoid overheating the oil).

Massage the oil gently into your scalp and hair ends. Wrap your head in a warm towel to maximize oil penetration. Leave it on for 30 minutes, then rinse it off with shampoo. Voila! Trust me, this treatment works wonders on all hair types.

Note: If you are someone with really oily hair, then instead of a mild cleanser wash your hair with your regular shampoo.

#5- Choose your shampoo depending on your hair type

This is crucial because, regardless of your efforts, using a shampoo unsuitable for your hair type can lead to damage and eventual hair loss. Shampooing is unavoidable as it cleanses your scalp and contributes to smooth and soft hair.

If you have rough dry hair then ensure that your shampoo for dry hair contains vitamin H and silk protein or keratin, these ingredients will help make the hair soft and shiny. If you want to completely go chemical-free you have an option, you can make your own natural DIY shampoo. For oily hair, you can use a dry shampoo.

To make this DIY shampoo, you will need, gooseberry, Shikakai acacia, and Soapnut. Put all these into a bowl and add some water. This will boil into a frothy solution, strain it can be used to wash the hair. It will act as a clean your hair just like a shampoo.

Ways To Make Your Hair Soft, Silky, And Long: #6- Pumpkin and honey hair mask

Pumpkin puree is great for your skin as well as your hair. If you have some extra pumpkin puree already leftover then great, let’s get started.

To create this mask, you’ll need pumpkin puree and honey. Any type of honey will suffice, though I personally prefer organic wild honey. Simply mix the pumpkin puree with honey, then apply generously to your hair and scalp. Allow it to sit for at least 20 minutes.

For best results, cover your head with a shower cap or plastic bag to keep the mask in place. Pumpkin, rich in vitamins and minerals, helps promote healthy hair growth.

#7- Milk and honey hair mask

This DIY hair mask recipe is one of my favorites since it’s easy to make as well as apply. I call this mask the “quick fix mask”. This mask is perfect for all types of damaged hair be it thin, fine, rough, or normal hair. The combination of milk and honey will restore the softness and shine of the hair

To make this mask you will need whole milk and honey. You can also add flour to the pack if you have any low-fat milk at home. It works either way. Blend the mixture well and apply it all over your roots to the tips.

Let it sit till you feel your hair drying. Wash it off with your shampoo and follow u with a conditioner. There, you are good to go.

#8- Mayonnaise Mask

Mayonnaise not only tastes yummy, but it can also make your hair shine. It is a great natural hair conditioner, doing the treatment once a week can be great for the overall growth and health of the hair. Mayonnaise is a rich source of L-cysteine, this is a type of pf amino acid that is also a powerful antioxidant.

To make the mayonnaise pack you will need, one cup of flavorless original mayonnaise. Mix this with avocado or aloe vera and apply it all over the hair from root to tip. Leave it on for an hour and wash it off with shampoo.

Note: For best results cover your hair with a shower cap or a normal plastic bag. This will ensure that the hair is well nourished.

Ways To Make Your Hair Soft, Silky, And Long: #9- Avoiding heat

I know it’s impossible to avoid the heat altogether but reducing the amount of heat you put on your hair can save your hair. I used to blow-dry and straighten my hair every single day. Guess what- my hair was so brittle and damaged. There is no alternative here because a certain style requires heat to set the hair properly.

heat styling

However, you can salvage your hair if you use these tools correctly and adhere to the instructions. For instance, if you set your dryer’s heat to its maximum, it may dry your hair faster, but it will also cause damage.

Always ensure that you use a good heat protectant spray before applying heat to your hair.  You can also use leave-it serums and conditioners to make your hair lock in that extra moisture. If you want a natural hair moisturizing pack, you can try applying plain yogurt to your hair once a week. Find alternatives and avoid heat when you are at home. Here is an example you can use overnight rollers rather than heating rods to curl your hair

10. Use simple overnight hairstyles to maintain the natural texture and health of your hair

  • Ponytail for curly hair

This hairstyle is great for managing unruly curly hair. Once you wash your hair and it’s about 75% dry grab the hair into a low pointy tail, depending on your hair length you can use several hair ties to fix your hair every 5-7 cm. Tame your baby’s hair. Cover your head with a silk scarf and go to bed. When you wake up the next day all you have to do is untie those. Your hair will be well-kept and easily manageable.

Here’s how to do it: Wash your hair, then dry it with cold air or under a fan. Next, wrap your hair around your head as you would with a turban and secure it with bobby pins.
