Recent reports reveal that sudden cardiac arrests (SCA) are on major rise among young women. The major victims of SCA are the working women who are even deprived of proper sleep schedules. They can hardly find time for workouts and exercises. Studies reveal that the major reasons who the sudden rise in heart attacks are unhealthy lifestyles, extreme stress, long working hours, untimely food consumption, deprived sleep, and over-screen time. The imbalance between personal and professional life affects the equilibrium of the body. In some cases, hereditary problems can also make women more prone to heart attacks.

The sudden loss of heart functions, disrupting the natural pumping of the blood is called sudden cardiac arrest. It is caused due to the electrical malfunction of the heart. The heartbeat varies rapidly, causing abrupt changes in the pumping of the blood. This condition is often fatal because of the shortage of oxygen-rich blood in the brain and other organs in the body. This results in slowing down bodily functions, causing death in a few minutes. 

 The most prominent symptoms of a heart attack in young women are shortness of breath and fluttering of the heart. Reports prove that, in India, the estimated deaths due to heart attacks have risen to more than 7 lakhs.

The increased consumption of alcohol and smoking to control stress and overcome work pressure has been a major reason for the increased number of heart attacks in young women. The person who is affected by SCA falls unconscious and loses breath. Medical experts have confirmed that it is a critical condition that should be assisted by proper emergency care. Experts say that the chances of recovery are 90% for heart attacks in young women when treated urgently.

Major Reasons For Heart Attack In Young Women

According to recent studies, the major reasons for heart attacks in women are high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and smoking.  The use of birth control pills and other hormonal medicines as well as pregnancy can cause high blood pressure in young women. As the gender gap in smoking is narrowed down, the risks of heart attacks in women are also increasing. The rise in lifestyle diseases like diabetes and obesity also increases heart attacks among young women.

The recurring use of birth control pills may cause clots in the blood which may lead to high blood pressure and later to heart attacks. Therefore, people with previous blood clotting issues are more likely to face heart attacks.

Symptoms Of Heart Attack In Young Women

The symptoms of heart attacks are similar among all the age groups. As per studies people of all age groups are affected by heart attacks these days. So it is important to identify the symptoms and seek proper medical care.

Chest pain is the primary symptom of cardiac arrest. The heaviness in the chest is faced by the majority of people prone to heart attacks, irrespective of age. Pain and discomfort in different parts of the body, mainly the upper body is a recurring symptom of a heart attack.  Cold sweat, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue are also considered as the common symptoms.

Tips For Prevention

  • A healthy diet including leafy vegetables and fresh fruits
  • Proper workouts or exercises for a minimum of 45 minutes a day
  • Women with hereditary heart issues should follow regular check-ups. This will help to detect the illness in the initial stage.
  •  Practice meditation and yoga for stress control
  • Avoid using unnecessary medicines
