Yoni Pearls

Humanity’s thirst for innovation is never-ending. We keep trying to make everything better. Over the years there have been many cleanses and detoxes that we engaged ourselves in. it’s only in recent times that vaginal cleanses became a thing. Yoni Pearls are a result of that.

What exactly is a Yoni Pearl? Yoni Pearls are pearls that detox your vagina. It can be simply described as a tea bag that you insert into your vagina.  Yoni Pearls are a bunch of herbs that are wrapped in clothes. You are supposed to put them inside your vagina for 24-72 hours, according to the instructions on the pearls.

These herbal tampons also say that they treat yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, and even fibroids. But what is the truth behind these Yoni Pearls? Keep reading to find out.

What Ingredients Are In Yoni Pearls?

Yoni means Vagina in Sanskrit, the literal meaning translated into “sacred place”. The word is supposed to bring more honor to women’s genitalia. But do you really need bundles of herbs wrapped up in pieces of cloth to be shoved up your sacred place? Probably not.

The ingredients inside these Yoni Pearls vary from pearl to pearl. Different brands use different ingredients in these vaginal detox pearls. Some of the major ingredients found in them are;

Ingredients of Yoni Pearls

  • motherwort
  • rhubarb
  • peach kernel
  • rhizoma
  • safflower
  • borneol
  • osthol

How To Use Yoni Pearls?

People use Yoni Pearls by inserting them into their vaginas like a tampon, keeping them inside for 24-72 hours. You can use a tampon applicator to insert the pearls.  Most pearls have a string attached to them, which will help you take the Yoni Pearl out of your vagina.

How Are They Supposed To Work?

Yoni Pearls are basically like tampons filled with medicinal herbs. Creators of these very specific vaginal pearls claim that these detox pearls have a gravitational effect, that draws all the harmful bacteria, toxins, mucus, and old blood clots, towards the pearl from your vagina. It also claims that it tightens the vagina and cures vaginal dryness.

There are also manufacturers who say that their pearls detox the uterus and cleanses the vagina and claims to promote a healthier reproductive system. And even help with irregular periods endometriosis (1), and various other vaginal and uterine ailments.

People have been using herbs to treat various health issues for a long time now. But there is no reason to believe that sticking a bunch of herbs up your vagina will in any way help with the health of your vagina or your reproductive system. Besides, there is no research backing up any of the claims laid out by these vaginal pearl manufacturers.

Why Do People Use Them?

Yoni Pearls are marketed as vaginal hygiene products, which buys into the idea that vaginas have a bad odor and aren’t supposed to have that. Vaginas are self-cleaning, so they don’t need any extra help. Washing it with water is enough to keep your vagina healthy.

Herbal tampons benefits

Society has convinced women that vaginas are smelly and therefore disgusting. This, coupled with the lack of education about how vaginas are supposed to look and smell has shamed women into trying out ridiculous cleanses.

People use vaginal pearls thinking that it detoxes their vagina and uterus and takes away the bad bacteria which causes the unpleasant odor. They think that it will help with cleansing their nether regions.

There are no mentionable benefits of Yoni Pearls. However, there are women that claim to have positive results after using them. But it’s unlikely that it will do you any good.

Yoni Pearls Side Effects

There are many things that can go wrong when you insert a vaginal pearl up your vagina.

  • The body does not react well to foreign objects that get inside it.
  • Even tampons and pads are supposed to be changed in 6 hours (2).
  • Shoving a detox pearl up there might do more harm than good.
  • Inserting a vaginal pearl might disturb your vagina. It can disturb the natural acidic pH of your genitals, increase discharge and odor.
  • It can increase your chances of infection by a landslide.

vaginal detox pearls Side Effects

  • If you find excess discharge, or difference in odor, color, or consistency, you might have concocted an infection. Make sure that you consult your doctor if you are facing such symptoms.
  • Vaginal detox pearls are risky because they alter the pH of the vagina. The vagina has an acidic pH to ward off the bad bacteria and to have the good bacteria live in harmony.
  • Using such herbs or scented creams will mess with this harmony and completely change the pH level needed for the vagina to be healthy.
  • There are Yoni Pearls that claim to improve your chances of pregnancy. Unfortunately, this is not true. Inserting vaginal pearls might lead to toxic shock syndrome (3) or  PID, which will increase the chances of infertility and ectopic pregnancy.
  • There is no strong evidence that suggests that vaginal pearls can cause a miscarriage but it might increase your chances of a miscarriage or early childbirth.

Final Verdict

Yoni Pearls are herbal tampons that you insert into your vagina that claims to detox and clean it. They are little bundles of herbs, wrapped in cloth. You can insert them using a tampon applicator.

The creators of these vaginal pearls claim that they help to get rid of the bad bacteria and toxins from your vagina. But, the vagina is self-cleansing, it does not need any extra help. All you have to do is wash it with water.

Inserting a foreign object up your body will only irritate your vagina and cause infections. It also increases the chances of PDI and toxic shock syndrome. The suggested time to leave the pearls in your vagina is 24-72 hours. This is harmful, as it will alter the pH balance in the vagina and will kill the good bacteria. Overall, we wouldn’t advise shoving bundles of herbs up there.
