Amy Schumer, 48, has become the talk of the town after her appearances on the shows ‘Good Night America,’ and ‘The Tonight Show’ went viral. Her appearances have invited remarks on her “puffier” face, as a response to which the “I Feel Pretty” star wrote, “Thank you so much for everyone’s input about my face.”
She was on the shows for the promotion of her upcoming talk show ‘Life & Beth.’ However, the internet was flooded with trolls about her “puffier face” and she ended up facing a barrage of jokes mocking her face.
The Comedian Says Endometriosis Is No Joke
The 48-year-old, who ventured into comedy in the early 2000s, further added that she has been enjoying the feedback about her appearance like every other woman in the past 20 years.
While teasing about her upcoming show titled ‘Life & Beth’ season 2 on Instagram, the entertainment tycoon wrote “You are right. My face is puffier than before. The star then went on to reveal that she was diagnosed with one of the very common autoimmune diseases in women, endometriosis, about which she thinks everybody should read. There are “medical and hormonal” things happening, yet she said she is one of the women who believes “no woman owes an explanation about her physical appearance. However, making use of the platform she has, Schumer remarked that she “wanted to take the opportunity to advocate about acceptance and self-love.”
Speaking of the general nature of women, she said she was no different from them. “Some days I am confident as hell and on other days, I want to cover my face with a bag,” she explained. According to the “Trainwreck” star, nobody should be judged based on their looks. “ I feel so proud of this show that I created, wrote, directed, and starred,’ she noted.
Under the post, many women came in her support and one of them tweeted, writing, “ I am not a fan of Amy Schumer, but can we please stop body shaming others? Endometriosis is no joke. It is a serious health condition. I looked like I had filler on my face. My entire body was swollen and I was unrecognizable.”
As per the Mayo Clinic, endometriosis is a “painful condition” that occurs when the tissue similar to the inner lining of the uterus ends up growing outside the uterus. The common symptoms of the condition include fatigue, bloating, pain during intercourse, menstruation, urination, and bowel movements.
In a candid Instagram video, she posted in September 2021, the actress revealed that she had to remove her uterus and appendix due to her condition. “My surgery was done this morning and my uterus is out. The doctor found 30 spots of endometriosis, and he also removed my appendix because the endometriosis had attached it as well,” said Schumer. “There was a lot of blood in my uterus and I am sore. I often get gas pains,” she added.
