Shawn Johnson Gets New Tattoos To Honor Her Kids And Husband Andrew East

Shawn Johnson, the 32-year-old former Olympic gymnast, recently marked a milestone in her life with a deeply personal gesture. She chose to honor her family in a very permanent way through the art of tattooing. On Monday, the gymnast posted a series of videos through her Instagram story showing off the marking of 5 tattoos in just one sitting. Each piece of art inked onto her skin symbolized her love for her husband Andrew East and their three children.

The decision to get these tattoos was not made lightly. Johnson, momentarily stepping away from her mommy duty, shared that she embarked on this tattooing journey over the weekend. This act of love was a declaration of the unbreakable bond she shares with her family.

Shawn Johnson’s New Tattoos

For each member of her family, Johnson chose a unique design. 

On one arm, she etched the name of her eldest child Drew Hazel in an elegant cursive script. 

The other arm pays homage to her son Jett James with his name styled in a distinctive typewriter font. 

She also celebrated the recent arrival of their third child Barrett Maddison with a bold inscription of his name in capital letters along the back of her arm. 

A subtle but significant ‘a’ tattoo under her collarbone represents her husband Andrew symbolizing their connection. 

The fifth tattoo, a honeybee located just above her wrist, adds a touch of mystery, as Johnson has kept its meaning close to her chest.

Shawn Johnson(1) and Andrew East, who began their journey together in 2016, have shared a life filled with both joy and challenges. Their marriage, initially tested by the heartache of a miscarriage, has been strengthened over time through the birth of their children. Their daughter, Drew, arrived in November 2019, followed by their son, Jett, in July 2021. In the summer of 2023, the couple joyfully announced they were expecting again, and in December, they welcomed Barrett Bear Madison into their family.

Johnson openly shares the significance of Barrett’s name, which is connected to a family legacy. As she says, “We’re so happy we got to use the name Barrett Madison for our son and love calling him ‘Bear.’ We knew if we had a boy we wanted to pay tribute to Andrew’s dad who passed away last year and his name was Guy Madison East. Andrew’s Grandpa’s name was also Madison and it was later passed down to his dad, making it a really special family name.” 

The couple is very active on social media platforms and regularly updates their day-to-day lives with their little ones.
