Aryna Sabalenca Takes Revenge
The match was a huge obstacle for Arya Sablalenca as she was defeated and dethroned by Coco Gauf, who won her first Grandslam through it. Coco Gauf, the reigning U.S. Open champion came to the Australian Open to win and she showed such a magnificent game.
Coco Gauf was feeling the pressure of the match all the while Aryna Sabalenca was not just going to lose. She declared her love for this matchup as she had waited all this time for a chance at revenge.
Sabalenca had learned from her past mistakes and kept on playing from point to point instead of overthinking and feeling pressure. The path for the defending champion was legendary as she won all her matches, not losing more than three sets, only dropping 15 games, and only spending a total of five hours and fifteen minutes on the court.

The second set saw the return of cold and calculating Gauf, who waited patiently for mistakes to take advantage and lead. Yet, doubles kept on hindering her and on the second match point, she finally falters and nets.
Resulting in Sabalenca’s ascension to the Australian Open Final, recreating history as the first woman since Serena Williams to play Back to Back finals at the Australian Open.
Sabalenca expressed her thoughts in the after-interview as she had believed in her opponent to rise to the occasion to give a last challenging shot at the match point which prompted her to take the necessary precautions that effectively translated to her winning shot.
Gauff also expressed their match as a really good match and she wishes to win the next one. She will return soon for her revenge and the Australian Open.
Sabalenca revealed her growth in the game with her better mental game and persistence to stay close to her game plan, even when Gauff destroyed her game plan and made it hard for the champion.
One of the defining features of the eight double faults served by Gauff and the increase in the ratio of winners to unforced errors in the tie breaks.

If Sabalenca wants to win the final, she needs to improve her ratio even more and Gauff’s return revenge will only be feasible if the second shot of her shows some sort of improvement.
She will be facing the 12th seed Zheng Qinwen in the final on Saturday, 27 January in Melbourne, Australia.
