Cardi B's ad cut in half

Cardi B is always famous for her sexual innuendo lyrics in her songs; her best songs were always eligible for a clean version due to a few pokes and jokes. It is no wonder that when she created an advertisement for her cosmetic brand NYX, half of it was cut out by the NFL due to its NSFW nature.

The Half-Banned Superbowl Ad

Cardi B and her team of artistic female creators created an ad that lightly poked fun at the male audience’s sexual insecurity. Which was vehemently rejected by the NFL due to its sexual nature, as people of all ages enjoy the Super Bowl.

The initially agreed 60 seconds was cut in half, with the result having only 15 seconds of play and a QR code was shown on the screen for the rest of the time, which was uploaded to the official channels of the cosmetic brand and personal accounts of the creators.

Although the advertisement seemed unredeemable by broadcasting teams, it was fit to be shown via social media, which was questioned by many netizens as the right thing to do.

Both ends of the spectrum have created a debate about where to draw the line regarding this matter, as it is a diving line that questions the authenticity of the First Amendment.

The Story of the Ad

The ad begins with a great proclamation from Cardi B. “It’s time to pump yourself up, baby.” She wore a tight orange suit with lip impressions throughout her suit, creating an enigmatic look while advertising the company’s “Duck Plump” lip gloss.

She was surrounded by a colorful cast of dancers who danced to her commands. She purred seductively and kept on reminding herself “Be bigger,” “So big,” and “Plumber.”  All the while, the caricature-like characters danced rhythmically.

All the while, a huge lipstick is seen rising to stand vertically while she is chanting all these mantras for the audience and potential buyers to feel pumped.

This is the total time that was sanctioned by the NFL to be worthy of broadcasting, and the later parts are only found on the YouTube channels of the creative party.

In the original version, after her grand introduction through dance and matra, the screen shifts into a newsroom, where a reporter introduces the breaking news of men putting the “Duck Plump” in unwanted places in an intriguing manner.

Further along, more and more chaotic situations are shown as women firefighters, 911 operators, medical staff, and new reporters take care of the situation with dignity and grace.

The scenes become more chaotic as there are more cases of men using the “duck pump” in places where it was not intended. Newsrooms were in chaos as another woman declared that there had been another case of “Duck Plump.”

Which prompted another woman to ask what was wrong with these men for doing something so idiotic. Then another woman seems to be explaining to an agonizing man,” Cardi said Duck” and then spells it out for him to get him to understand.

Later on, a pharmacist is shown, who explains to a group of men that “Duck Plump” only enlarges lips and nothing else before giving a small hint at what she is referring to.

In the end, the screen fades into an announcement by NYX Cosmetics in which they introduce themselves as the number one lip gloss brand in America and once again explain that it is intended for lips only by using a hashtag.

The Aftermath

After the controversial advertisement, Cardi explained that they are proud of their creation, an artistic expression that pokes fun at male stereotypes, and they believe it was just a humorous take on such an insecurity.

The NFL was clear on its stand and wishes for future advertisers to follow their guidelines to make family-oriented content that does not violate their children-friendly policy.
