Gina Rodriguez Shines In New Netflix Rom-Com And Her Biggest Role Yet- Motherhood

Gina Rodriguez, the actress who is known for her versatility, has been taking on different types of roles from different genres over the past few years. From thrillers to sci-fi, to action comedy, she has showcased her talent and today, she is loved the most for playing in rom-coms. Comedy is where she seems to stand out the most. 

“Comedy is the best space to play in,” says Rodriguez. While playing the character, ‘You can feel both deep and light.” The mom of one further said, “Comedy is the best part of what life is about.”

Rodriguez Emotionally Details Her Motherhood Experiences

The 39-year-old actress, based in Chicago, embraced her most loved role, motherhood last year. Rodriguez and her better half, Joe Lociceo tied the knot in 2019, and in 2023, they happily welcomed their firstborn, Charlie, into the world. 

Rodriguez, who is the epitome of fun and entertainment, both on-screen and off-screen, got emotional while talking about what it is like being a mom at the premiere of her new Netflix film, “Players.” 

“It is like every emotion on a million,” she began. According to the “Awake” star, motherhood is both “exhilarating” and “petrifying.” 

“It is the most phenomenal feeling visceral from the core of my soul,” she remarked. “I was telling my best friends, that I have done everything with them over the last 10 years, and now there is this new soul that has already become a part of all of us,” she said with tearful eyes. “My friends are the Godfathers and Godmothers of my son. They have seen my entire journey and I have seen theirs, and now Charlie is a part of this tribe,” she concluded. 

In her upcoming Netflix movie, she is playing the character of a sportswriter named Mack, who realizes life is not only about her profession. When asked about the role she is playing in the movie, Rodriguez explained that the viewers would get to see the actual journey of someone who decided to change the way she has been living throughout her life. 

Her character, Mack, slowly starts to feel like life “is not serving her anymore and she slowly sets herself up on a journey in search of “love” and “connection.”  

“She wants to be in a relationship and also wants to stop playing games. But the problem is that she already started with a game,” Rodriguez hinted at the plot of the movie. As the story progresses, Rodriguez’s character slowly falls in love with Nick (played by Tom Ellis) without realizing that her best friend Adam (played by Damon Wayans Jr.) is in love with her, always looking out for her.

After giving a vague explanation about her character and what the whole movie is about, she continued to explain her love for being a part of romantic movies. ‘I love romance,” Rodriguez added. “I love the idea of someone thinking about you when you are not there. I think that is my love language,” she continued. 

Besides playing the lead role in ‘Players,’ she is also the executive producer of the film, and therefore, she has been showcasing her commitment, and inclusivity in storytelling.
