How not to get too wet during sex

An excessively drippy vagina brings with it a lack of sensation and reduced sexual pleasure. The vagina, by nature, is supposed to be moist and this serves a number of purposes including hygiene and offering lubrication during sex. But getting too wet during penetration is as much a valid concern as the more common vaginal dryness. So, let’s get to know how the dam leaks during sex!

Can A Woman Be Too Wet During Sex?

Yes, you are not alone. Some women get too wet during sex, which can diminish the sexual experience and lead to insecurities and losing confidence in bed.

Sex is not rocket science, as it seems. The natural biological urge of a man or woman hyped to exceed limits has brought in performance anxiety and a variety of psychological insecurities. Vaginal wetness is nothing to be ashamed of. It only needs to be addressed correctly.

How Not To Get Too Wet During Sex?

The vagina is a mucous membrane, which means that it will be moist and wet normally. The major ‘culprit’ here is the Bartholin glands, which are two pea-sized teeny tiny glands, located inside the vagina(1). They give the leak when the lady goes into action or feels aroused. They also keep the area well-lubricated.

Second in line is the cervix, which produces cervical mucus, which keeps the area slush, all through a woman’s productive years.

Normally, the vaginal fluid contains water, salt, antibodies, organic compounds, and old cells. The antibodies are to keep infections at bay.

During ovulation, the cervical mucus goes into a little overdrive, to facilitate the easy travel of the sperm to meet the egg, to culminate in pregnancy. Henceforth, it is underlined that a healthy vagina produces adequate amounts of wetness and there is no need to panic, as it aids in smooth coitus and fertility unless there are other medical conditions or symptoms like itchiness, irritation, redness, or pain, in which case, you have to seek expert opinion.

The Skene glands(2), known as the female prostrate, also have a major part to play in the lubrication process. Being close to the lower end of the urethra, they cause squirting. The fluid that moistens the vaginal folds is believed to have an antimicrobial defense system to protect against any infection from developing. Not to mention the female ejaculate that tops the dessert!

Did I just miss mentioning the sweat that adds up to the fluid down below? Yes, you could sweat down there as well, due to stress or some other reason, and it adds up to the confusion regarding arousal!

Vaginal Dryness During Sex

Some should be appreciative of the fact that some are getting too wet during sex, given that there are a lot of people who experience vaginal dryness which cause painful intercourse a. Vaginal wetness can vary with different factors, like menopause, ovulation cycle, hormonal changes, and the degree of arousal.

Never remind a woman of her age”, said a wise man.

But age definitely is a factor in determining the quantity of vaginal lubrication. Women, as they advance in age, may notice that they do not get as wet as they did before because their bodies tend to produce less estrogen. Nearing menopause, the body starts producing less estrogen, reducing the ‘love juice’ gushing out.

Wet…Wetter….Wettest!

A normal vagina, which is healthy, tends to be considerably wet. The secretions of Bartholin glands and the cervix will be different on different days owing to different factors, like hydration, ovulation, etc. When your period stops after the monthly cycle, you will notice that it gets a little dry down there. But in a day’s time, the moisture makes its presence. The consistency of the discharge keeps varying from watery to stretchy.

Vaginal Dryness During Sex

What the cervix will ooze out is sticky mucous, which turns smoother and flowy with increasing estrogen in the body. When ovulation takes place, the fluid takes the consistency of egg white. So when estrogen is at its peak in you during the ovulation cycle, you can even feel your panties getting too wet for no reason. So now you know the reason!!! Not to mention that this is the time you make babies.

Why Do I Get Too Wet During Sex?

So, let’s dig into the factors including health conditions that get the vagina too wet during sex.

Arousal

A no-brainer. The more the arousal, the more the wetness. When a lady gets into the mood, the Bartholin glands get switched on and start lubricating the vagina, to make it ready for sex and to avoid friction and injuries during the same.

But there are exceptions to people getting wet even when they are not aroused. Some may feel wetness even hours after the act, and it may not have anything to do with arousal. This is where the distinction between sexual arousal and physical arousal comes in. You should not confuse sexual arousal with physical one as the former is the one that drives one into the sack, fully loaded.

Hormonal Fluctuations

Those in hormone replacement therapy will also notice a change in vaginal wetness levels as higher estrogen levels cause an increase in the wetness. If you started or stopped the usage of birth control pills, hormonal fluctuations could ensue. This is also a cause for the vagina becoming too wet during sex.

Infections

It is alarming to have your vagina produce more vaginal fluid than normal. Getting too wet during sex could signal an infection. Yeast infection, bacterial vaginosis, and trichomoniasis- all change the quality of discharge.

A yeast infection brings out cottage cheese-like discharge with vaginal itching and burning, while bacterial vaginosis may produce a white, grey, or yellowish liquid that smells like fish.

The Gentleman’s Code

So here is a naughty little secret. The man finishes last, allowing the lady to go first, which is an unwritten code of a gentleman. He uses foreplay and more foreplay to make the woman feel ‘loved’ before the sex. This could add up to the sexual tension and tear open the shutters, which could be seen as getting too wet during sex.

There are yet other reasons, like the presence of alcohol or drugs in the body, level of physical activity, prescription drugs, etc.

How Much Is “too wet”?

Here is a little note to your inner tigress:

“Friday night, when the weekend starts unwinding and when the beer bottles clink, there is one thing lingering on the man’s mind! Get home and have a steamy, passionate night with his girl!!! The way he wants it. Like a Brute…. “.

This is the flashback! Now women also have an equal say in when and when not they want to have sex. They can determine the way, mode, tone, and pace of sex.

Who has the feeling that you are getting too wet during sex?  Do not allow anyone to make you feel ashamed of how wet you become. Pay attention to the tone with which they address this. Educate them, if they are genuinely concerned, about how arousal brings about the leak. They should take it as a compliment, right?

But if someone is whining about how wet you are getting, instead of feeling bad about yourself, and going in for products that claim to reduce vaginal wetness, you should pull your panties up. Girls, you are the master of your bodies!

Moreover, slathering chemicals on your love zone can mess with your pH levels and bring about infections and cause damage to inner tissues due to friction during penetration. It also increases the risk of breakage of condoms due to friction.

Vaginal wetness is what makes sex pleasurable and provides lube to the penis, anus, vagina, or fingers! Without the lube, the rubbing can cause micro tears in the soft area, which in turn runs the risk of infections.

How Getting Too Wet During Sex Becomes A Cause For Concern?

Some do raise concerns about being too wet during sex that they cannot enjoy sex. Here are a few practical things that you could do, like trying out new positions that will make you keep your legs closer after the penetration. If you cannot feel the action because of extra lubrication, there are condoms in the market that are ribbed or dotted, which could well come into good use.

SoulFactors Tip

Keep some tissue paper in close reach for dabbing off the extra cum. You could alternatively keep a towel below you to soak up the extra lube, without ruining your bedsheets.

If you both are into oral sex, then this could drive one crazy. A better option there would be the use of dental dams which are put as a barrier between the puss and the mouth!

What Can I Do To Prevent My Vagina From Getting Too Wet During Sex?

1. Reduce foreplay

Foreplay is what juices it out. Foreplay is the technique of creating arousal in your partner by means of caressing, fondling, and kissing them in their erogenous zones. It turns on a person and makes them ready for sex. Sometimes it so happens that the partner, in an attempt to show more affection and care, lengthens the duration of the foreplay, which could juice out more vaginal lubrication.

Communication is the key to any successful human interaction… You should openly discuss the matter with your partner and come to an agreement about the foreplay and the sexual position part.

Takeaway: Cutting short the duration of the foreplay is one of the means of preventing getting too wet during the act.

2. Kegel Exercise

Kegel exercise also called the pelvic floor exercise, is designed to strengthen the pelvic muscles. It takes care of excessive wetness by toning and strengthening the vaginal muscles. It has many benefits, like reducing urinary and fecal incontinence, to name a few. Kegel exercise is done by squeezing and holding your pelvic floor muscles on a regular basis.

You can start by doing a small number of squeezing, holding, and releasing, and later increase the numbers. You can do this while sitting, standing, or lying down. Some insert the finger into the vagina and squeeze it to feel the finger getting pressed. Some try this while peeing. They hold the urine mid-stream many times before fully evacuating the bladder.

Takeaway: Kegel exercise can take care of excessive wetness by toning and strengthening the vaginal muscles.

3. Biofeedback and Electrical Stimulation

In biofeedback training, a probe is inserted into the vagina to connect it to a monitor to see if the correct muscles are being squeezed and it is done by a trained health professional. In electrical stimulation, a small painless amount of electric current is sent to the pelvic floor muscles to cause them to squeeze.

This will recreate the sensation one gets when one does the Kegel exercise. This, in turn, helps in the reduction of wetness in the vaginal area with the muscles working efficiently.

Takeaway: Biofeedback training is an option that can recreate the sensation in Kegel exercise which in turn can reduce wetness.

4. Sea Sponges

Another unconventional way of dealing with your flooding sex zone is to insert a menstrual sea sponge. They are usually used, instead of a tampon, during menstruation. But it could be used in your love lagoon as well. They are absorbent as they expand to retain the liquid.

It can be cut to shape for comfort. Not to mention, they are natural and sustainable products. They are legitimate parts of an aquatic organism formed by a substance called spongin(3). You may need to use your fingers skillfully to remove it though. You can leave it on and be ready for action.

menstrual sponges

When you search for menstrual sponges online, you can see that menstrual sponges are available in synthetic versions too. But you have to be careful about the quality of the sponge, as you are putting it in the vagina. You have to make sure it is as sanitary as possible, or a possible complication would be toxic shock syndrome, though rare. It could lead to complications from bacterial infection- the symptoms include chills, rash, seizure, high fever, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting, to name a few.

Some researchers point out that it may contain sand particles, mold, grit, bacteria, or yeast. While re-using, it is pertinent to wash it in warm water, rinse and dry it thoroughly. You can wear it for a few hours without any discomfort. It is also stated that the rough texture of it would bring about micro-tears to the vaginal walls which will invite bacteria and viruses. In short, it comes with its share of risks and complications. Any reckless act can cause serious damage. Study the sanitizing procedures and research the matter before jumping in.

Takeaway: Inserting a menstrual sponge before sex can absorb the extra moisture.

5. Take care of Vaginal Hygiene

Given that infections can change the quantity of love sauce flowing, make sure you prioritize vaginal cleanliness. Do use mild soaps or cleansers down there to make sure you do not reduce the pH value there, which may invite an array of infections.

Use panties that allow your skin to breathe. Avoid tight-fitting clothes. Douche, vaginal deodorants, and anti-bacterial wipes are big no-nos. Trim or shave your bush to minimize sweat retention.

Takeaway: Treat any infections and follow good vaginal hygiene.

6. Visit your Gynecologist

If the culprit behind your deluge is medication, do not hesitate to ask the doctor about a swap. Do explain how the medicine is acting out down there. Some birth control pills play havoc with the estrogen and cause your partner to run searching for a raincoat during the foreplay.

Takeaway: Certain medications can cause increased lubrication. Switch medications after consulting your doctor, if necessary.

7. Avoid foods that increase wetness in women

Evening primrose oil tablets, omega-3 fatty acids, sunflower seeds, avocado, sweet potato, etc. could be avoided or taken in moderation. Some foods like flaxseeds are proven to increase the levels of estrogen, thereby increasing wetness in the vaginal area.

Avoiding foods that increase wetness in women

In this context, it is reasonable to have a food diary or food tracker, which could help you track the effects of the reduction in the intake of such foods, that are acknowledged for increasing the love sauce. For example, Apple is said to contain phytoestrogen phloridzin, which is said to enhance lubrication and arousal.

Research conducted at Santa Chiara Regional Hospital in Italy found that the more apples a woman consumes, the higher the lubrication will be (4). Hence, try tracking how apple works for you or against you. Fruits like strawberries have a high level of zinc, which helps increase lubrication (5). So, you do the math!!

Takeaway: Limit foods that spike estrogen levels in your body.

8. Tame the Mind

Using mental techniques like autosuggestion and hypnosis can work wonders if your vaginal flooding is creating havoc in your sex life. Auto-suggestion is the method of repeating self-assuring statements, to bring your mind to confidence about an expected outcome. Auto suggestions regarding your wetness also will work, with your consistent efforts and determination. But it sure is not a quick fix and will take time. You could also try distracting your mind, deliberately, for a few seconds during the action. It would help to mop the passion a bit, which also can help in reducing your lubrication.

Ultimately, it is about not panicking. You flow. So??? Relax and enjoy the process. Talk things out with your partner. Master your body with relaxation techniques like breathing exercises yoga or tai-chi.

Takeaway: Relaxing and having greater control over your mind can help with enhancing your sexual experience.

Final Word

A shout to all the queens, out there. Remember that your body is your temple. You decide the rules of your temple and the temple yard. You are what you are! Better up for yourself, only for yourself!
