Issa Rae’s Hilarious Oscars 2024 Message Bursts Fans Into Laughter 

Issa Rae delivered a must-see message for the prospective casting directors in the middle of her conversation with the Oscar’s host Laverne Cox. The 39-year-old actress, who played major roles in three of the Oscar-nominated films, including ‘American Fiction,’ ’Barbie,’ and ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ jokingly suggested the casting directors cast her if they want to bag an Oscar nomination next year.

Speaking on the red carpet of the 2024 Oscars in LA’s Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on March 10, the actress quipped,” Cast me. I do not want to say I am good luck, but see, I, am wearing green tonight. So, all I want to do is send a message out there. So, if you (the casting directors) want to get nominated at the Oscars, cast me.” 

Rae turned thousands of heads at the ceremony last night by wearing a full-length AMI Paris dress that featured a daring plunging neckline. She further discussed how her style has evolved over the past few years, acknowledging that she has recently developed “love and respect for the fashion designers”.

She added, ”I think over time, as I had to step out very frequently, I have developed love and respect for the fashion designers. For me, any opportunity to work with brilliant artists across different mediums is especially in fashion. So, I am going to take each of those opportunities and so, I have been loving it.” 

During her early career, the ‘Barbie’ alum pretty much had a struggle with her confidence. However, she now appears to have changed from top to bottom after taking inspiration and advice from people like Debbie Allen, Ava DuVernay, Mara Brock Akil, and Shonda Rhimes. 

“I do not care where I stand in my career or how settled am in it. I do not care how much praise I get for the roles I do. I still approach every project thinking I will never get such an opportunity again,” she said during an “Archetypes” podcast. 

Despite her success, Rae said she has never been satisfied with what she has achieved so far. I have never been stagnant and I have never been satisfied… that hunger just stays within me. 

The founder of Hoorae Media achieved wider recognition in 2016 as the co-writer, co-creator, and star of the HBO TV series,’ Insecure.’ During that time, she was nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards and Golden Globes Awards. 

However, even before Insecure was released, she garnered attention for the YouTube web series, ‘Awkward Black Girl.’ She has been working on her YouTube channel since 2011 by dropping various short films, and web series. Rae initially gained recognition for her 2015 memoir ‘The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl.’ Shortly after the publication, it became the New York Times bestseller. 

In 2019, Google announced its collaboration with Rae as she would be Google Assistant’s additional voice saying it can be activated by saying “OK Google, talk like Issa.” Her voice was available on Google for a year.

In 2021, her production company, Hoorae, signed a television deal with WarnerMedia. Later that year, she created a television program called ‘Sweet Life: Los Angeles’ as part of that contract.
