The ever-green duo Meryl Streep and Martin Short were recently put into the dating rumors, sparking speculation about their relationship. The renowned actors have showcased incredible on-screen chemistry, leading to genuine off-screen friendships as well.

Short Denies Dating Rumors with Fellow Co-Star Meryl Streep

The actor shut the rumors down during one of the previous episodes of ‘Club Random with Bill Maher.’ The rumor has been swirling for quite some time now, but the recent revelation made by Short himself has left their fans disappointed as he said a big no when asked if they were seeing each other. 

“We are not a couple, we are just very close friends,” the actor and comedian said in the podcast published Sunday. Earlier in January, the two renowned actors were spotted together at the Golden Globes 2024 ceremony, and ever since, they have been at the center of romantic rumors. The two were seen together as a couple in the last season of ‘Only Murderers in the Building‘ and their bonding was well accepted by the viewers. In the series, their characters also had a complicated love connection. Along with Selena Gomez, Streep, and Short were also nominated this year for their wonderful performances in OMITB.     

After the Awards nights, a rep for Short told the reporters that they are ‘just very good friends.” However, the repeated denial has not stopped Maher as well as their fans from speculating about their relationship. In addition to that, the rep for Streep also came into the scene when the news came to light. “They have chosen lives apart, yet they still care for each other,’ the rep commented. 

After Short denied the coupledom in the podcast, Maher continued to put forward his opinion on the potential union of the pair. To put his point, he used the examples of celebrity couples such as Bard Pitt and Angelina Jolie, and Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. According to Maher, nothing in Hollywood is more powerful than a power couple.

“They circle each other,’ he added and continued his unified theory of power couples by putting the spotlight on Timothee Chamalet and Kylie Jenner. However, as soon as Maher took the name of Jenner, Short jumped in, joking, “I know what you are about to say, but they are going to last.” The Canadian actor, 73, further added that he will have to recheck his beliefs if the two part ways with each other. With that, he humorously dismissed the speculations and quipped that they were friends and nothing more.

Streep and Short boast incredible careers, and together they captivate their audiences with a blend of enduring companionship and talent. They have collaborated on numerous projects including The Prom, and Father of the Bride, each leaving their footprints in the entertainment industry. 

Short was married to Nancy Dolman, who passed away in 2010 after suffering from ovarian cancer. The pair together shared three children Oliver Patrick, 37, Katherine Elizabeth, 40, and Henry Hayter, 34. Our marriage was a triumph,” Short told AARP: The Magazine in 2019. Although she passed away in 2010, “I still communicate with her,” he said at the time. “It’s always, Hey Nan, you know,” he quipped. 

Streep, on the other hand, was happily married to Don Gummer in 1978, but in October 2023, she revealed that the couple had a secret split 6 years ago.
