Elle King performance for Dolly Parton's birthday facing backlash

Singer and songwriter, Elle King is under intense backlash from furious fans after her disastrous performance in the Grand Ole Opry. During the program, intended as a tribute to country legend Dolly Parton, she appeared intoxicated and her vulgar language and slurred speech directly led the audience to the right conclusion.

The apparent  Intoxicated performance at “Opry Goes Dolly”

Elle King and Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton, the patron saint of country music, was being honored by the Grand Ole Opry(1) through the event “Opry Goes Dolly”. There were two shows scheduled
(7pm and 9.30pm) on her 78th birthday on January 19, 2024.

A massive birthday card was available at the venue for the audience to write wishes for their beloved idol. $5 was also allocated from every sold ticket to Opry trust fund which acts as a crutch for individuals within the Country Music community who are facing various hardships.

A wonderful cast was formed on this phenomenal occasion including Terri Clark, Elle King, Tigirlily Gold, Ashley Monroe, Don Schlitz and Dailey & Vincent.

Their intended performance was centered around singing mostly Dolly Parton’s songs, with a mix of their own hits, all aimed at entertaining the vast audience.

Although the celebration was in her name, the queen of rock and roll was nowhere in sight.

This was meant to be a great tribute to the queen of country music.
Yet, Elle King single-handedly destroyed the entire show’s morale by entering the stage hammered to the core. She was even struggling to talk as she stammered and slurred through her words.

She continued to spew vile stuff at the audience, which included children  present, violating the child friendly atmosphere maintained by the Grand Ole Opry. The singer was even seen stopping someone from giving a tributary speech to Dolly.

The daughter of Rob Scheiner, actor and comedian, was witnessed by a member of the audience forgetting the lines to the Dolly Parton song which is a disaster on its own.

As depicted in the highly shared TikTok video covering Elle King’s backlash driving performance, it consisted of her slamming fans for losing their ticket money to her. Much to the absolute horror of the audience she even kept on reaffirming it by repeating the statement even when an audience member assured her there was no need for a refund.

Later on in the video she introduces herself by letting the audience know that she is really intoxicated, and there is nothing the audience could do about it.

Eventually, after nearly 15 counts of offensive language usage, the curtain was closed and,  the variety show ended with a goodnight surprising no one.

Needless to say, this completely destroyed the initial purpose and further infuriated the audience member who had paid about $300 for tickets and $40 for parking.

Furthermore, the concert-goers couldn’t get over the disrespect, as seen in numerous social media posts blaming Elle’s lack of respect for Dolly and the Opry.

This prompted the netizens to believe that  Elle King will soon be canceled or given a suitable punishment as this is such a grave issue and would absolutely stir up the internet making the netizens go berserk, if left unchecked.

Disrespecting legacy characters are no-go since early days and the last few to try to eclipse this rule have suffered failure and earned well-deserved backlash

Which in turn gave way to online criticism and questioning the lack of punishments for such  unsightly behavior.

The Grand Ole Opry’s Apology

The Grand Ole Opry, considered the mother church of country music, holds a special place in the hearts of music lovers. It has been on the forefront of country music for nearly 90 years and was a major player behind popularizing the genre.

These grand stages were always dreamt by music enthusiasts and artists as a zealous stage of creative endeavors. But the music giant was forced to apologize, after the horrendous performance by Elle King. The company posted an apology comment to an audience member’s post, stressing their regret in the usage of a profane language by one of their artists.

Although no official statement or press conference has been announced on their part, the comment reflects their stance on the issue.

There has been no statements official or unofficial from Elle King, and it is the same in the case of Dolly Parton, which further points to the severity of the situation.

This is not the first time Elle King was intoxicated before entering a stage. As she previously did the same gimmick in the “New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash,” where controversy  brewed due to her hammered manner in which she sang her own hit song ‘drunk( I don’t wanna go home)’.
Due to its humourous and cringy nature, the incident was eventually forgiven by the fans who treated it as a mere meme. Alas, a few fans also seem to be inquiring about Elle King’s mental health, as she seems to be exhibiting these abnormal behaviors only lately.

Questions are still arising from her fans on if there is something going on with her.
