Sofia Vergara, the Columbian-American celebrity star opens up about her divorce from Joe Manganiello after a decade’s married life. Her unwillingness to become a mother again at 51 eventually led to the divorce. Joe, at 45, wanted to have a baby with his star wife, to which the latter didn’t concur, saying she got a boy already and was done with it.
She stated that her marriage broke up because her husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and she didn’t want to be a mom once again. She felt it was not fair to the baby. She added that she respected whoever did it, but that was not for her anymore.
The End of a Nearly Decade-Long Romance
The fairytale-like romance which lasted for 8 years crumbled last summer over differing views on bringing children into their life. Reportedly, the pair initially met in 2014 at a White House Correspondents’ Dinner party followed by dating for six months to get engaged.
Vergara is already the mother of a 32-year-old boy, Manolo Gonzalez-Ripoll Vergara whom she shares with her high school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez. Now being a middle-aged lady nearing menopause, she expressed that she is ready to welcome grandmotherhood over motherhood.
The actress further said that she had a son at 19, now grown into 32 and that she was ready to be a grandmother, not a mother. She added that if love comes along, he has to come with his own children.
She continued that when her son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to her for a while, and then She will give it back to him and go on with her life and that’s what she has to do.
Vergara’s candid comments provide rare insight into her split from Magic Mike star Manganiello after nearly a decade of marital bliss. The pair met in 2014, became engaged after just 6 months of dating, and wed in Palm Beach in 2015.

Behind their famously romantic relationship, cracks had formed over starting a family together as Manganiello entered his 40s eager to become a first-time father while Vergara felt she was done with motherhood.
Last July, after 8 years of marriage, the couple quietly announced their divorce in a joint statement read that they had made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people who love and care for one another very much, they politely ask for respect for their privacy at that time as they navigate that new phase of their lives.
Now newly single, Vergara is optimistic about finding love again, recently joking she may have better luck dating in New York City versus Los Angeles. She was also recently spotted with a rumored new boyfriend, orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman.
The ageless beauty is entering an exciting new chapter focused on her sizzling career, including her new Netflix series Griselda portraying real-life drug queenpin Griselda Blanco.
The incident signals that even Hollywood’s fairytale romances sometimes come with irreconcilable differences just as in the case of common couples.
