Mom-To-Be Rooney Mara Flaunts Baby Bump At Berlin Film Festival

Hollywood star Joaquin Phoenix and his wife Rooney Mara are expecting their second child together. The news was confirmed when she was spotted cradling her baby bump under a black off-shoulder dress at the premiere of La Cocina at the Berlin Film Festival on Friday.

The actress, 38, amped up the red carpet style by wearing a stunning, strapless black floor-length gown that subtly displayed her bump for the event. 

The actress and the Joker fame are already parents to a son River, born in 2020, a year after their private engagement. the son’s name honors Phoenix’s brother, who breathed his last at age 23 in 1993, from an overdose. 

The happy news of their first pregnancy was initially announced by Russian filmmaker Victor Kassakovsky, who previously worked with the ‘Gladiator’ star on the documentary titled, Gunda. He revealed the news at the Zurich Film Festival. “He just got a baby. A beautiful son named River,” Kassavosky said in a statement in September 2020. Their pregnancy news broke during the COVID-19 pandemic when the two were quarantined at their LA home. 

Mara and Phoenix met on the set of the sci-fi drama ‘Her’ in 2012 and ever since they have been together. In the documentary directed by Spike Jonze, Phoenix played a character who falls for an Intelligence Operating System, named Samantha, who was voiced by Scarlett Johansson. But later, he ends up falling in love with another character Catherine, played by Mara. 

In an interview after the release of the documentary, Phoenix admitted that he first thought Mara hated him, but later realized that she was just shy. But after the two got to talk with each other, things began to blossom quickly. 

Phoenix said that Mara is the only woman he looked up on the internet. They were email friends to start with, but he had never looked up a girl online. 

Before their engagement in 2019, they started dating in 2016 while working together on Mary Magdalene. A year after the dating rumors, the pair showed up at the 70th annual Cannes Film Festival in May 2017 looking all lovey-dovey holding hands. 

In 2020, the couple once again showed up hand in hand at the Academy Awards when Phoenix won the Best Lead Actor for Joker.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Phoenix will be seen along with Lady Gaga in the musical thriller film titled, Joker: Folie a Deux. Very recently, the makers of the movie dropped a series of pictures of the leads which was captioned, “Feeling the love,’ and they went viral on social media. In the first picture, Phoenix dressed up in his character, stands next to Harley Quinn as she looks away. In the second snap, the on-screen pain appears to be sharing a cute moment, standing on either side of the bars. In the last picture of the carousel, the two are seen dancing on the rooftop wearing a suit and a wedding dress respectively. 

Their fans are eagerly waiting for the release and it is set to hit the theatres on October 4.
