Olivia Rodrigo’s new album Guts has been released. The American singer-songwriter and actress from California had her skyrocketed right from her debut album Sour which went on to become one of the most streamed as well as critically acclaimed albums.

She had previously released the 12-song track list of the album which she described as about “growing pains and trying to figure out” who she is at this point in her life.

Rodrigo had earlier posted behind-the-scene images from the song’s video shoot which showed the singer having fun while making the song in New York City last year. “We wrote the chorus as a joke but we loved it so much we made it into a full-fledged song lol!” she captioned the post. “I had a ball making the music video with my friends and I’m so happy it’s out in the world,” she wrote mentioning her real-life friends Petra Collins, Madison Hu, Tate McRae, and Iris Apatow, who have been featured in the music video of the song Bad Idea Right.

Bad Idea Right?

“Seeing you tonight, it’s a bad idea right?” the song opens.

“Oh yes, I know that he’s my ex, but can’t two people reconnect? I only see him as a friend, I just tripped and fell into his bed,” they further mock the thought. “Bad Idea Right? started with us making a joke song about me hooking up with an ex-boyfriend, but then we realized we were actually onto something,” Rodrigo disclosed in her statement.

The music video is said to be inspired by 90s B-movie horror-comedies and sees Rodrigo going to an ex’s house.

“‘Bad Idea Right?’ started with us making a joke song about me hooking up with an ex-boyfriend, but then we realized we were actually onto something,” Rodrigo said in a statement. “We were throwing the weirdest things at the wall—in one of choruses there’s a part that sounds like an instrument in the background, but it’s me gradually screaming louder and louder.”

While her debut single was evidently about a breakup, Rodrigo has not revealed if the track took inspiration from the end of her relationship with Joshua Basset, former boyfriend and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series co-star. The couple reportedly separated sometime in 2020, after which Basset was spotted more than a few times with Sabrina Carpenter.

Fans speculate the track takes aim at Basset. They have also taken note of a change in the lyrics from an earlier, leaked version of “Drivers License”.
