By now we are all tired of hearing about those diets that only include green leafy veggies- it’s impossible to follow especially if you are someone like me who loves food. Therefore apart from just outer hair care, I would also take you through the food you can include in your daily diet to take the hair game a notch higher.
Things you might have been doing wrong…
Brushing Wet Hair
One of the most possible and underrated mistakes we tend to do is brushing the hair while it’s wet. Brushing wet hair does make it look sleek at that moment but actually what you are doing is ripping your hair apart. The best way to mage wet hai is to use a wide-toothed comb and start from the tips then pull your comb downward from the roots.
Combing the hair downward roughly even with a hairbrush can damage the outer cuticle layer leaving your hair broken and frizzy. The gentler you are with your hair while it’s wet the better it can leave your hair.
Are you blow-drying the right way?
Ok, it’s a fact that the best way to dry the hair is to let it dry naturally, there is no alternative to that. But for us busy women it’s almost impossible. would want to go to work looking like a wet chicken. But hey let’s not give up, we can use the dryer and yet keep our hair healthy. How? Blow-dry your hair like how you usually do but while you finish up blast your hair with some cold air using the same dryer.
This will not only close the cuticle but will also make your hair more tamable and must be easy to handle for styling. Another tip never uses the dryer without the nozzle. The nozzle directs the air down to the tip from the roots thereby helping the hair to dry faster as well as cause less damage to the cuticle(2). You can use your fingers as a comp and move them through your hair while using cold air to make it more shiny and sleek.
Your towel can be your worst enemy
Taking a towel and roughly scrubbing the hair back and forth is somehow become a habit for most of us, this not only gets rid of the water in the hair but also creates friction between the towel and the hair leading to dryness, cuticle damage, breakage, knots, and frizz.
No friction equals smooth hair. Yes, that’s the formula- our hair gets tangly because the hair cuticles are open if you keep the cuticle tighter the hair becomes less prone to any kind of frizz or breakage.
Therefore when you dry your hair it’s always better to use a smoother towel or better a T-shirt. If you use a towel then instead of rubbing it just wrap your hair in the towel and squeeze out the water, this will ensure that the hair stands remain undamaged.
Shampooing the right way
When shampooing, we all have that habit of pilling up the hair at the top of our heads and scrubbing the shampoo into the scam and the hair tips. When you do this not only does your hair tangle bt also all the moisture at the ends of your hair is ripped off. If you are someone with curly hair this could cause so much damage to your hair.
If your hair is straight, you don’t need to worry much as gravity can help you dispense the oil throughout the length of your hair easily. if you are a curly-haired beauty then the oil might not reach your hair tips just as easily.
What does this mean? Simple, curly-haired girl need not shampoo them as often as a girl. Another important thing that cannot be skipped is to use a conditioner right after shampooing. If you have a very oily scalp make sure you only apply the conditioner at the ends of your hair and not at the roots.
Note 1: If you are someone who lives in the city or an area where there is hard water then this can damage your hair. It can make your hair dry, frizzy, and completely lifeless. Here is a little hack- you can add a bit of baking soda into your clarifying shampoo once a week. Baking soda can increase the surfactants helping in cleaning the scalp. If you don’t like this idea you can also purchase a filter shower heald which can soften the water.
Note 2: when you are out to purchase your shampoo, check the ingredients list. Look out for a label named hydrolyzed keratin. Keratin is one of the keys to getting silky smooth hair. It can also help in restoring the structure and color of damaged hair.
Get the right pillowcase.
This might sound a bit crazy but a pillowcase can do a lot to the hair. For example, if your pillowcase is made of a rough cotton material then this can absorb the natural oils on your head and dry out the hair.
These cases, if not changed frequently, can cause scalp infections and also breakouts on the face. Therefore fine a nice smooth silky pillowcase, this will help you keep your hair sleek and shiny.

Doing a hot massage once every week can not only make your hair smooth, shiny, and strong but it can also be a great therapy for you to relax. To do a hot oil massage you can use oils like coconut oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, castor oil, lavender oil, rosemary oil, or tea tree oil.
You can either use a single oil or make a blend of oils. I usually love mixing coconut oil with lavender oil or tea tree oil. This is also a great form of aromatherapy – it instantly clams and your body. Here is how you can do a hot oil massage.
Take 2-3 tablespoons of oil of your choice. The quantity of oil you will need depends on the length of your hair. You can either apply this as it is or heat the oil lightly. Make sure you don’t burn your finger (do not overheat the oil).
Massage this gently into the roots and the ends. Wrap your head in a warm towel, this allows for maximum penetration of the oil. Leave it on for 30 minutes and gently rinse it off with a shampoo. Vola, there you go -trust me guys this pack works wonders on all types of hair.
Note: If you are someone with really oily hair, then instead of a mild cleanser wash your hair with your regular shampoo.
5. Choose your shampoo depending on your hair type
This is very important because no matter what you do if you are using a shampoo that doesn’t suit your hair type it will damage and cause hair fall in the long run. Shampooing cannot be avoided because it cleanses your scalp and also makes your hair smooth and soft.
If you have rough dry hair then ensure that your shampoo contains vitamin H and silk protein or keratin (3), these ingredients will help in making the hair soft and shiny. If you want to completely go chemical-free you have an option, you can make your own natural DIY shampoo.

8. Mayonnaise Mask
Mayonnaise not just tastes yummy, it can also make your hair shine. It is a great natural hair conditioner, doing the treatment once a week can be great for the overall growth and health of the hair. Mayonnaise is a rich source of L-cysteine, this is a type of pf amino acid that is also a powerful antioxidant.

Note: For best results cover your hair with a shower cap or a normal plastic bag. This will ensure that the hair is well nourished.
9. Avoiding heat
I know it’s impossible to avoid the heat altogether but reducing the amount of heat your put on your hair can save your hair. I used to blow-dry and straighten my hair every single day. Guess what- my hair was so brittle and damaged. There is no alternative here because a certain style requires heat to set the hair properly.
But you can save your hair if you use these tools properly and follow the instructions. For example, if you put the head on your dryer to the hair to its maximum this may in drying the hair faster but it will also damage the hair.
Always ensure that you use a good heat protectant spray before applying heat to your hair. You can also use leave-it serums and conditioners to make your hair lock in that extra moisture. If you want a natural hair moisturizing pack, you can try applying plain yogurt to your hair once a week. Find alternatives and avoid heat when you are at home. Here is an example you can use overnight rollers rather than heating rods to curl your hair.
10. Use simple overnight hairstyles to maintain the natural texture and health of the hair
Ponytail for curly hair
This hairstyle is great for managing unruly curly hair. Once you wash your hair and it’s about 75% dry grab the hair into a low pointy tail, depending on your hair length you can use several hair ties to fix your hair every 5-7 cm. Tame your baby hair. Cover your head with a silk scarf and go to bed. When you wake up the next day all you have to do is untie those. Your hair will be well kept and easily manageable.
The Latin American hair tie
If you want to keep your hair straight then this is your way, this method is also known as “La Toca.” this has been followed by Latin women over centuries. To do this wash your hair, dry it with cold air, or under a fan. Now wrap your hair around your head like you you would do with a turban and secure it with bobby pins. Trust me guys next morning you will be surprised as to what this simple style can do.
I hope you enjoyed these effective ways to make your hair soft, silky, and long! if there is a simple and natural alternative to any chemical product then it’s always better to choose the natural one as they can help your hair in the long run.
